Late Eclipses
So one of the nice things about having a Kindle is I can pre-order books and have them show up--poof!--when they are actually released. So last night I began reading _Late Eclipses_, the latest book in the October Daye series by Seanan McGuire.
And a new song occurred to me.
Mayday
lyrics and melody by Catherine Faber 2011
A Fetch, she wears, through sun and storm,
The mirror of your face and form
But though your death she's bound to bring
You can get used to anything
You can get used to anything.
You're October, she is May
She is something more than fae
You are just a Changeling...
You can get used to anything
You can get used to anything.
May Day dusk she wakes you all
To drag you to the Beltane Ball
But while the coffee she will bring
You can get used to anything,
You can get used to anything
She can mold to her commands,
Fresh-made magic in her hands
A little blood, a little sting...
You can get used to anything
You can get used to anything.
May is dancing, stomp and whirl
Courting with a Raven girl
Back and forward, dip and swing,
You can get used to anything
You can get used to anything.
Her end will be your daying day
You need a roommate anyway
She does the dishes--that's the thing
You can get used to anything
You can get used to anything!
Update: there is now an mp3 of Mayday if you would like to hear it.
Just for the record I will note that, like anyone else even peripherally associated with the filk community, I am vividly aware that Seanan is a filker of range and striking power, well able to write her own excellent songs (see latest demonstration here)--and my contribution is simple fangirl squee.
Also I'm not done with the book yet so no spoilers in comments please.

Cool... I'd love to hear it sometime.
Edit: May I learn this for possible performance at Seanan's book release party? And do you have chords writ somewhere?

Okay, cut this out, paste it into a word document (or other word processor) and put it in a monospace font like Courier, and the chords should appear in the right places.
I will put the chords after the downbeat they go to.
A Fetch(Dm) she wears through sun (C) and storm (Dm)
The mirror of your face (G) and form (Am)
But though (Dm) your death (C) she's bound (Dm) to bring (C)
You (Dm) can get used (C) to any (Bflatpowerchord) thing (Am)
You (Dm) can get used to any (C) thing (Dm)
Note in the reply above the Bm should be a B *flat* minor (I'm bad about that one chord) and since I don't have much stretch on the octave mando I end up playing it b flat, f, (b flat, f)<-an octave up. I think a chord like this, with the third left out, is called a power chord. You could probably play it as B flat minor, though.
You do good work, lady. :)
